This is the update. I had trouble sleeping last night because of the news that it's a girl. Even though I was early for an ultrasound that would sex the baby, she was an acrobat with legs wide open. The magic three lines were there and the tech gave us a 98% chance, offering this little tidbit, "I'm saying it's a girl". I had been feeling all along that I would have another daughter, even before I conceived and was giving up hope, I knew if we ever had another child she would be a girl. So I'm not surprised at all...just a little tired.
When Mena hit her two's in stride, fear took over and I REALLY wanted another boy. One that would maybe play in the dirt, and like trucks, and perhaps spend hours outside in the summer rather than crying because "the sun blinds me!"
Though I probably wouldn't have had that boy anyway. That boy would have asked for a chemistry set for his second birthday and would be building a time machine, powered by the 4 main elements (earth, wind, fire, water) and creating historical gene maps to help pinpoint the exact date of arrival for this time machine, with his older brother by his third. What I wouldn't give for a child that begs to play outside!
So here are the dreams I shared with my friend Loralee via facebook: "...this [girl] is going to be different. I'm going to name her Lucy or, or Anne and she's going to recite
The Highwayman while wearing soft summer frocks...sniff...and play with dolls...whimper...and tea sets...and she WON"T scream "Don't help me! I hate help!" (cyring softly into my own shoulder).
Also, I'm praying that this little widget will have black wavy locks like her father, and sparkling blue eyes that stay blue like her grandfather. And we are going to lean towards more soft purples in her wardrobe so as to differentiate her from the pink princess that is Baby Mena as well as a nod towards her grandmother Marie who LOVED purple. If you have any lilac infant outfits ready for the goodwill we will happily swallow our pride and accept them ;-)

You're a wonderful writer, Amy. And we'll get started on the Lil Miss Jane Austen Tea-Hat-Verse-and-Frock Set right away.
sounds awesome! yes, I love the name Jane too, now that I'm in the middle of an Austen period.
A Girl! I'm so happy for you. Just think the girls will be able to out vote the boys in household!
Yay! Now Nathan will have to "W" girls to choose from.
Congratulations! I am confident that you will have a precious beautiful little girl. I'm tossing "Anya" in the ring. How about "Cordelia"?
I adore "Anne" but I cannot in good conscience add that many "n's" to any child of mine.
Nicole, you might be right about the N's
Jane wasn't really a suggestion, but it would be cute. John is afraid you'll have a kid stuck being called Plain Jane. Real suggestions from the Elisons: Abigail (for Mrs. Adams), Jospehine (for Jo March), or Lily, because it fits the softer girl you are dreaming for.
I wanna get in on the baby name thing too! My choices are: Ava, Jacklyn and Grace.
What, you don't like you kids names?? Why? And as the mother of a boy who is SOOO CLINGY and RAMBUNCTOUS, I am hoping my next one is a calm little girl who likes to color or something.
And I love the pictures of Mena!!
My vote for a name is Zarahemla Gadianton That way, by the time she has to learn how to spell Wylykanowitz, it will seem easy.
Just don't do anything silly. I have, in my life, known girls named: September, Cinnamon, and Zelpha. I'm sure they sounded cute when they were tiny.
Of course, you could do something clever with her initials, maybe Priscilla Ameila, so instead of writing her initials, she could just draw a cat's paw whenevr someone wants her to initial something.
I always wanted to name a kid Ulysses Grant so his intials would be "UGH".
